1. What Signlo is
Signlo is a video-first social network for the global Deaf community.
You watch and share short sign-language videos, follow
other signers, join groups, and discover community events. Sign language
is the heart of the app: most content is video, and captions and visual
cues come first. Sound is never required.
By creating a profile or using Signlo, you agree to these Terms. If you
do not agree, please do not use Signlo.
This is a closed beta. Features may change, break, or
be removed, and the service is provided on an "as is" / "as available"
basis while we test and improve it.
2. You must be 18 or older
Signlo is for adults only.
You must be 18 years of age or older to create a
profile or post content. You confirm your age when you sign up. Signlo
is not a dating app and must not be used to solicit
minors or for any sexual contact. We remove accounts that misrepresent
age or violate this rule.
3. Your account
-
You can watch the public feed without an account. To
post, react, follow, message, or join groups, you create a profile
(email one-time code).
-
You are responsible for the content you post and the activity on your
account.
- Keep your access to your email secure: it is how you sign in.
- One person per account. Do not impersonate others.
4. Your content and sign-language video
-
You keep ownership of the videos, captions,
name-sign, photos, bio, and other content you create ("Your Content").
-
You grant Signlo a limited, non-exclusive licence to
host, store, process, encode, caption, cache, and display Your Content
for the purpose of running the service (for example,
delivering your video through our content-delivery network and showing
it to the people you choose). This licence ends when you delete the
content or your account, except for copies we must keep briefly for
backups, security, or legal reasons (see the Privacy Policy and the
data-retention schedule).
-
Your
sign-language video shows your face, hands, and signing. Because signing can reveal who you are and information about you,
we treat sign-language video as
sensitive personal data (special-category data under
GDPR Article 9; see the Privacy Policy).
We do not run face recognition, and we never use your video to
identify or track you.
Your Content is used to train sign-language technology only if you
separately and explicitly opt in to that (the licence you grant in §4
does not cover it). We do not sell Your Content.
-
We may transcode, generate thumbnails, and adjust formats so your
video plays well on different devices. We do not edit the meaning of
your content.
The rules below are stated in full, in plain language and with examples,
in our
Community Guidelines, which form part of these Terms.
To keep Signlo safe, you agree not to post, send, or
share:
-
Child sexual abuse material (CSAM) or any sexual
content involving minors, or anything that sexualises, endangers, or
solicits a minor. This is a zero-tolerance rule.
-
Sexual content, nudity, or solicitation directed at anyone (Signlo is
not a dating or adult app).
-
Harassment, bullying, threats, stalking, or hate speech targeting
people for who they are.
-
Violence, incitement to violence, or content promoting self-harm.
- Spam, scams, fraud, or deceptive links.
-
Content you do not have the right to share, or that infringes someone
else's rights. To report infringement of your work, or to dispute a
removal, see
Copyright and takedowns.
-
Attempts to break, overload, scrape, reverse-engineer, or circumvent
the security of the service.
Trust & Safety / CSAM handling. Reporting, content
review, CSAM detection, and reporting to the relevant authorities
(including the NCMEC CyberTipline in the United States
via a registered Electronic Service Provider) are
operated by our trust-and-safety partners. You can
report or block content and people from inside the app.
Reported content may be reviewed and removed, and serious violations are
referred to the appropriate authorities and may be reported to law
enforcement. We may suspend or remove accounts that break these rules.
6. Reporting, moderation, and enforcement
-
Anyone can report a post, comment, profile, message,
or event, and block another user.
-
Repeated reports against the same content may automatically hide it
pending review.
-
A trained moderation team (operated by our partners) reviews reports
and can remove content, restrict, or terminate accounts.
-
We aim to act on credible safety reports within the response times
published on our Support page: child safety
and credible threats to life acknowledged within
1 hour and acted on immediately; harassment, hate,
and intimate images shared without consent within
24 hours; other rule-breaking within
72 hours.
7. Events and payments
-
Free events are organised by community members.
Signlo does not vet event hosts or venues and is not
responsible for what happens at an event. Use your judgement.
-
During the beta, real payments are not enabled: the
payment rails run against test infrastructure and no real money can
move. Where paid tickets, paid groups, or bookings are offered in the
future, you purchase from Signlo, Inc. Signlo
appears on your receipt and card statement, and Signlo then pays the
host or provider. Payment is processed by our payment processor
(Stripe), which holds the funds until the host or
provider is paid; Signlo never sees or stores your full card
details. Transactions are screened for fraud by Stripe as
part of processing. Paid in-person ticketing follows the applicable
app-store rules.
-
Refund policy: if a host cancels a paid event or a
provider cancels a booking, you are refunded in full, automatically.
If you cancel an event ticket more than 24 hours before start, you
are refunded in full; within 24 hours, refunds follow the host's
stated policy shown at purchase. Booking deposits follow the
listing's stated cancellation terms shown before you pay. Where
something failed on our side, we refund in full. Refunds go back to
the original payment method via Stripe, which
processes payments on behalf of Signlo, Inc. Nothing here limits your
mandatory consumer rights.
8. Deleting your account and your data
-
You can delete your account at any time from
Profile → Account & privacy → Delete account.
This permanently removes your profile, videos, posts, reactions,
follows, group memberships, and messages, subject to short
backup/legal retention windows described in the data-retention
schedule.
-
You can download a copy of your data from
Profile → Account & privacy → Download my data.
-
See the Privacy Policy and the
Data Retention & Breach notes for details.
9. Audio
Signlo is visual- and haptic-first and works fully
without sound. Any sound playback is
opt-in and off by default; you can turn it on or off in
your settings at any time. We will never make audio required to use a
core feature.
10. Service changes, suspension, and beta status
We may change, suspend, or discontinue features, and we may suspend or
terminate accounts that violate these Terms or applicable law. Because
Signlo is in closed beta, we may also limit access, reset data, or pause
the service. We will give reasonable notice where we can.
11. Disclaimers and limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Signlo is provided "as is"
without warranties of any kind. We do not guarantee the service will be
uninterrupted, error-free, or that content posted by others is accurate
or safe. To the extent permitted by law, our total liability for all
claims related to the service is limited to the amounts you paid Signlo
in the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim. Nothing in
these Terms limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited, or your
mandatory consumer rights.
12. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, United
States, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules, and disputes are
subject to the courts located in Delaware. Mandatory consumer
protections in your country of residence still apply.
13. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms. If we make material changes, we will notify
you in the app or by email before they take effect. Continuing to use
Signlo after changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms.
